In the boreal cordillera, one of the major towns/cities would be Dawson City (located in the Yukon Territory).
A major activity in the Boreal Cordillera would be mining. Years ago, an incident called the "Klondike gold rush" happened. This was when miners travelled to Dawson to dig for gold (which happened to be abundant in the area). To reach the gold, miners had to dig through the permafrost. The ground had to be thawed before it could be dug. Then the dirt had to be sliced to separate it from the gold. All digging had to be done during the summer as it was impossible to dig in the winter (Quest Connect).
"Mining has historically been economically important for this ecozone, the Klondike gold rush being the best known incident. Most mines have closed down recently, and forestry is becoming more important. Wherever mines have been, their toxic tailings and environmental damage have long-lasting effects. " -Torsten Bernhardt
As forestry is getting more popular, as the area has an abundant amount of green, the Yukon Conservation society encourages:
Dawson city is still very old fashioned, and lacks many of the urban development we have in Toronto. This is a positive factor, as it helps protect the environment from being used for retail/businesses.
In the future, Dawson city will continue to help our environment. Because of the gold rush and how important it has become to the Dawson community, they have decided to put it to rest and focus on forestry. Though forestry can also harm the environment, they encourage others to try and protect it as best as they can. The environment is getting better, little by little, and with the help of Canada as well as the rest of the world, we can create a healthier place to live.

- Fair and transparent community-based planning.
- Encouragement and protection of our local forest-based industries, contributing to sustainable long term economic health. (http://www.yukonconservation.org/forestry.htm)
